Getting to know Slovakia from above

On the shelves of Slovak bookstores appeared a new book from the publishing house Dajama, which attracts beautiful views from lookout towers.
The new book Lookout towers, Volume 2 presents all significant lookout towers in Slovakia that were built after 2012.
The book is designed to introduce each lookout tower to the readers in more detail. It includes technical specifications of the lookout towers, access routes and points of interest in the area.

Increase in interest in lookout towers

This book is a follow-up to the 1st volume of Lookout Points, which is also now being published in a second edition. "In the first volume 62 sites with lookout towers are described. In the second part there are 66 sites with lookout towers built after 2012. Already this number points to a sharp increase in interest in lookout towers in Slovakia," says Ladislav Khandl, the author of the book.

Wooden, brick and metal

In the book we can find different types of lookout towers. Towers made of wood, such as the lookout tower on Krahul Hill or on Krúpa Hill, have the most numerous representation. There are far fewer brick and metal ones. In the book we can also find architecturally interesting gems such as the tower in Kravany nad Dunajom, which has a concrete lower part, followed by an original wooden structure and a metal staircase inside the tower.

Panoramic views

The description of each lookout tower also includes a description of the views it offers. For example, the lookout tower on Modlův vrch will surprise you with a beautiful circular view of Horní Orava. One of the highest in Slovakia is the Dubeň observation tower, which offers lovers of panoramic views a truly unique experience. From the tower there is a nice view to the south of Žilina and to the north to the villages of Brodno, Snežnica and the Kysucká Highlands.

Attractions in the surroundings

The book also includes places you can visit in the vicinity of the lookout towers. For example, if we decide to visit the original barrel-shaped tower standing in the middle of the Tokaj vineyards, we will certainly not regret it. "Not only will we visit one of the most interesting lookout towers in Slovakia, we can also see the ruins of Slanec Castle or the little-known picturesque Lake Izra," adds Daniel Kollár, editor of the book.
